Rap: Lil' Wayne, Kanye West (he's considered rap or R&B), young money, Ludacris, Sir-Mix-a-Lot, Nikki Minaj, there are too many. Rap is awesome. I don't understand why so many people dislike it, it might be stupid and have a lot of bad words, but behind every song there's a story, and there are different stories for each genre obviously. So if you don't know if you like rap, or have never heard it, you should at least try it.
Rock: Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many to even name one. In September I went to a U2 concert with Yellow, it was awesome! Also I went to a Switchfoot concert, but I was eight years old, so it doesn't really count very much...and everyone has heard a good rock song, so no need for explanations.
Alternative: Cartel, Neon Trees, some 3OH!3, some All Time Low, etc., etc. alternative is awesome when you want slowish songs, but I actually think 3OH!3 and ATL are more of pop-ish rock songs, but whatever, not according to iTunes.
